The Reluctant Fundamentalism”,  In the movie we see Islamic fundamentalism is obviously opposite to the modern west in that it reject individual autonomy, and democracy in the name of Islam .

The Reluctant Fundamentalist goes for on unknown terrorist, in its use of ethnic profiling and stereotyping it show the increased suspicious and anger prompted by terrorist. attacked as conductive to psychological state that motivate terrorist activity.

Changez retrospective narrative, which accounts for his opposition to the west maps psychological cross culture, tension on to the present moment, of telling contribution to the mounting suspense, after encounter as an uncertainty about what is happening, or will happen after the part of company establishing that exchange.

Religious fundamentalism as a form of political, Revival is crucial to the political dimensions of the plot and tension between Fundamentalist and unlighted secular corrector at the end of the novel.
Jim cross (leader)say remember fundamentalism it’s menace profit. Here market fundamentalism and religious fundamentalism both are looking together, they in way  doing same terrorism that tryst to narrated same thing.
Frame narration story within a story ,one day suddenly professor N.C.Renner in the American professor working, in a Lahore university.  he is coming out of cinema theatre and he has abduct , and suddenly CIA  Boby Lincon named a journalist and for  a suspect is Changez khan.  he is a protagonist , boby lincon  making a interview, whole film is a going on a like interview it is one narration.
Boby Lincon  is a taken interview of a changes khan.

And then flashback in introduction of a changes khan who is a changes khan. In the interview there is one dialogue  I liked most and also very interesting , changes khan speak , “ Nazre bhi dhokha kha sakti hai “.

Doing the corruption for company benefits or profit of the company is doing a less staff and making a profit for company . it’s a successes story of the any changes khan , how many people are unemployed.jim cross is leader there success is a job less of so many people .
And there is a library , it is also increasing the cost therefore it will also have to do privatization. They father was poet and Changez khan  he is a business man in  the conflict between  Literature and market there conflict is very inter vowel. That is why librarian asking their what is doing he was say my father is poet he belongs to a Urdu traditional of literature . he say you will see the library such that it will not be profitable it is harmful.
At that time he give example, that you are modern janissaries it say for, by kidnapping a Christian child and making him a Muslim and fight in front on Christian. It’s become market fundamentalism. Private corporation houses, America , 9/11 , Urdu tradition, the literature, the conflict between father and son.     These all are beautifully inter viewed. And what is going on now.
Conflict of fundamentalism market , religion, literature  and business every thing it’s enter vowed in  deferent capacity.

In movie lot’s of scene is postcolonial concept, how identity take place in the movie it’s  very significance.  And also there  identity how they harm.  they suffer a lot every where.   The feeling of being “Other” in an America becoming stronger for Changez, as his beard has became his identity of being Muslim. Before 9/11 he was a clean shaved guy, but when everyone make him feel that he is a Muslim, he started keeping beard, maybe he was also showing a kind of patriotism towards his country as Americans were showing.

Thank you….

Movie Review " Midnight's Children ".

This blog is a part of my classroom activity of Postcolonial Studies: Film Screening: Midnight's Children

Here is the blog of a given task: Click Here

     Director – Deepa Mehta
Screenplay - Salman Rushdie
   Writer – Salman Rushdie
        Starring – Shabana Azmi
Ronit Roy, Shriya Saran, Satya Bhabha

“Midnight children”  is written by Salman Rushdie.  it is a postcolonial novel in which the novel give and account of the historical event, that happened during British Raj and independence in India . He added beauty to this event thought using, the tool of Magical realism in which make it beautiful piece literature . it’s magical movement is very old idea to use in the parvati .  In the use of Progressive and regressive movement use of the movie . it’s always journey of India , it’s very interesting Juxtaposition .
Their are more element of post modernity also, post colonial discourse,  white person narrated brown world. History memory how it’s narrated here, most of episode to 1919to 1977. So text is very thick movie is not very thick. In the movie what is connection between “literature and politics”  or what is connection between  politics and religion.
In their meta narration  Muslim wanted separate country that is meta narration , meta narration challenge of marginalize narration.
So many thing are parallel, rich poor divide and how the poor hates rich, India made  of that dimension. Poor have animosity towards rich people.

In the movie also irony of the mother India  old irony of the mother having extra marital affair with some man.
In this  movie also scene of the Marxist revaluation hero, they say change the fate of the rich and poor, in the change fortune to both childe . in the deep satire on the Nauruan  socialism time, take money to the rich and give to the poor. That system of work text’s to rich and subsidizing  poor Marxist idea to satirizing .

What is post colonialism ?

Post colonial as the word itself says, refer to period after colonialism.  colonialism is referred to subjugation of with countries and Nations by the strong one .

Postcolonial element in midnight children .

A fantastic movie directed by Deepa Mehta is made on it . that been watch and appreciated worldwide . In the movie which highlights the post colonial setting of India after British rule . It pictures the postcolonial social, cultural political, religious practice, that were evident in India .

Much of his fiction is set on the India subcontinent. he is said to combine magical realism with historical fiction. his work is concerned need with the many connection disruption and migrations between East and West civilization . The stories told by its chief protagonist Saleem Sinai and is set in the context of actual historical event as with historical fiction .

In this movie we find that most important postcolonial concept used in postcolonial Literature are Hybridity, Hegemony , ambivalence, mimicry miscegenation, subaltern ambiguity magic realism feminism globalization etc.

Midnight children,  children  traces grotesque destiny of a Muslim Indian family from 1915 to 1977 when Indira Gandhi emergency rule was about to end in a general election .

In the novel, the time period that the novel cover as a started by Robert Towers is from 1915 to 1977 . British rule in the subcontinent come to its end on 15th August 1947 midnight children are The children born at the stroke of midnight of 15th August 3rd market India's Independence .

Magical realism is the narrative style of this novel besides this one can trust several postcolonial element in the novel as hybridist, mimicry, miscegenation, postcolonial feminism.

In the movie Saleem Sinai to hero is also one of this midnight children they are introduced to Saleem  after a bicycle accident . As a result of a jolt received   in bicycle accident I selling scene I become a whale of them all . He starts listening strange voice and tell his family about listening strange voice no one believe in fact he is accused of cracking stupid joke and is badly treated .

There comes a time when this midnight children actually appear and start talking to him they tell him about the supernatural power they had . the Midnight children where not ordinary kids they had supernatural power .

“Saleem and Shiva ,Shiva and Salim nose and knees and nose”
the overhead given the gift of War and to Salem the greatest talent of all the ability to look into the hearts and Minds of men .

Saleem used to held conference with this midnights children this conferences, are repeatedly referred in novel as midnight children conferences different political issues are discussed in this conference.

In the movie can see that mimicry postcolonial way .

Mimicry is evident during British raj in India. where one can witness British mimicking India while India mimicking British, Selman Rushdie has given several such example, of mimicry .
For example Saleem Sinai  the hero of the novel at one plus, highlighting mimicry in his society say that in India we have always been vulnerable to Europeans Abed had only been with us a matter of weeks and already I was being suckered into a grotesque you mimicry of European literature .

One can also see traces of imitation in him he tries to mimic language spoke in India for example sab kuch Tik Tok hi everything just fine.( Rushdie-2011.)

The movie is also portrayed Hybridity.

According to Rushdie privilege a postmodern spares or third principle that blind both side of binaries like East –West  circular religious real fantasy and colonizer colonized. and for ground hybridist over clarity and open and less over closer .

For example Rushdie himself Saleem is a perfect representation of hybrid male born with multiple allegiances and identities .

Postcolonial feminism.

Feminism is also one of the postcolonial element found in this novel.  India is a male dominated society, where female are separated by the male one way or another, we can also said that females are treated as a subaltern in the region of the word .
For example,  Naseem, Amina, and Jamila.

Thank you….!!!!

"The Birthday Party"

1

Why are two scenes of Lulu omitted from the movie?

According  to me, In the film version of the birthday party he omitted scene between Lulu and  act .  The audience would focus on the character of a woman, who was abused by men.  and she would have been judged as victim, rather than the protagonist . In this film  is not unnecessary scene.
There is no way of knocking what printers actually motivation was in clipping lulus role . One possible explanation is that he probably felt that lulus reappearance in act three was only distracting the attention of the audience from Stainless impending Doom point however there might have been ways to integrate Lulu more organically into the play .

2 )  Is movie successful in giving us the effect of menace? Where you able to feel it while reading the text?

Yes,  In both the play and the film seems to be a trivia. The opening conversation between Mag and petey .

3)     Do you feel the effect of lurking danger while viewing the movie? Where you able to feel the same while reading the text.

In the film, we find  several times the knocking the door is lurking danger, And entire sequence is frightening. who is coming inside and somebody coming in inside and shouting. who is this? who is coming?  the person showing a such a way do not identify  revel little   a bit of frightening.

4)  What do you read in 'newspaper' in the movie? Petey is reading newspaper to Meg, it torn into pieces by McCain, pieces are hidden by Petey in last scene.

Newspaper, is a symbol of Reality or  hide of mask or reading is power. Inside the somebody is coming afraid of people most of the place, or writer tries to do that in the movie releasing the play.  begins there is a somebody's knocking the door, and Mac ask him who is there? who is there? but nobody reply.

5)      Camera is positioned over the head of McCain when he is playing Blind Man's Buff and is positioned at the top with a view of room like a cage (trap) when Stanley is playing it. What interpretations can you give to these positioning of camera?

In the camera movement is first long short, of full room. And everybody was trapped inside the room. And then camera close-up upon the man’s Buff, then goes on.

6)  "Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of one another and pretense crumbles." (Pinter, Art, Truth & Politics: Excerpts from the 2005 Nobel Lecture). Does this happen in the movie?

Yes, with some exceptions it happens in the movie. Everybody shows care and love for each other, for example Lulu, Meg and Petey shows care towards Stanley but at the end when Stanley is in problem no one helps or even cares.

7)   How does viewing movie help in better understanding of the play ‘The Birthday Party’ with its typical characteristics (like painteresque, pause, silence, menace, lurking danger)?

Movie helps us in better understanding because, it gives more effect to menace. in the film, Pinter’s exact shift is from where to where? Pinter’s shift from an emphasis on people in the play to an emphasis on things in the film is  at the least a painteresque of the play.

8)   With which of the following observations you agree:

o   “It probably wasn't possible to make a satisfactory film of "The Birthday Party."
o    “It's impossible to imagine a better film of Pinter's play than this sensitive, disturbing version directed by William Friedkin”[3]. (Ebert)

I agree with the following observation:-
““It's impossible to imagine a better film of Pinter's play than this sensitive, disturbing version directed by William Friedkin”.
.

9)   If you were director or screenplay writer, what sort of difference would you make in the making of movie? Who would be your choice of actors to play the role of characters?

The movie is quite disturbing and excellent in a way. I don’t think I would like to make such film.

Thank You……..
